Come ride the race every mountain biker should try at least once….
You start up at 3,300m on top of a glacier above Alpe d’Huez and finish 32km later in the small town of Allement way down at 800m. Sounds easy right? Come find out for yourself.
We’ve got a couple of great chalets in town: choose from the usual flowmtb service with food and wine, or just go for B&B and leave yourself free to explore the town at night. Both chalets are right in Alpe d'Huez centre so you are staying where all the action is, close to the Grandes Rousses lift, and to all the sign up and registration info. Don't get left out - make sure you're in Alpe d'Huez where everything will be happening.
Chalet Baron has been the flowmtb Mega chalet for a couple of years now. This year we'll be there again, running it B&B but with a hearty two course meal, and wine, served to you on the 1st and 3rd nights; giving you the chance to get to know the other riders and swop trail stories. We leave you free to explore the town, and the restaurants on the other nights.
The other flowmtb chalet is new for summer 2009. A super swanky town centre chalet, with hammam, games room and a massive lounge and fireplace, this really is holidaying in style. If you want the full service and full-on luxury come here. Breakfast will be served each morning, afternoon tea left out for you, and a three course meal with wine will be served on all nights but one. Plus you have the hammam to sooth your aching muscles, and comfy sofas and the games room to chill out in after a tough day on the bike.
Sara and Guy will both be there all week: we'll help you sort out your race registrations, find out where to eat and point you in the direction of the best trails to ride. This is our third summer of doing the Mega and riding the area, so we can help you with all the tricky details!
The Megavalanche is a tough test of your riding skills. Most of it is unlike any UK riding and lots of our guests have mentioned they could have done with some extra coaching, and tips on how to get down safely and quickly. So, for 2009 we have arranged local instructors for flowmtb guests who can coach you down and give you the secrets you need to succeed. Don't get left behind - get the inside story on how to ride these gnarly trails. This is an optional add-on to the accommodations, but we highly recommend you take it! Details and costs will be online shortly.
News just in from the organisers is that there will be a new race format for 2009 - with the Mega taking place over three days - friday, saturday and sunday. We'll get more info to you as soon as we have it. Race registrations open on 12th January.
Find out what Guy has to say about the 2006 race on our blog. And for any girls wondering about the girlie experience check out how Sara found it last year.
