Monday
An early start – we leave Marrakech at 6am to drive to the high Atlas. The drivers get us high into the Moroccan mountains before dropping us off to take our bags onto the night’s accommodation. We have a short warm up of easy pedaling along fireroads before we drop off on technical rocky singletrack. In times the path is very testing, but an amazing ride for the adventurous biker looking for a challenge! After that it eases up a little with a super smooth path by the river bed, then some more rocky trails, then finally we pass through villages with friendly children and some fantastic singletrack through gardens. Today is mostly downhill, with a bit of pedaling to reach the gite.
The evening is spent in a mountain gite in a tiny town that’s not even marked on the map. Accommodation is basic, but amongst our favourites. The gite is beautifully decorated, the food amazing and the welcome is one of the warmest we’ve experienced. Be warned, they’ve had us dressed up in Berber costume before and had us provide the nights entertainment by giving us their musical instruments to try!
Tuesday
Another early start, made easier by a breakfast of home baked breads, jams and cheeses. An initial uplift is provided by the vehicles, then some gentle uphill pedaling to meet our mule men and the start of a hike up Tizi Rougoult. Mules carry our bikes up this incredible mountain. At the top we’re rewarded with an amazing singletrack descent down the other side. A long technical, but flowy descent eases into a slight downhill descent passing though some incredible scenery and more villages full of friendly children to meet the landcruisers (or ride a tough climb for 20km) to get to the next gite.
This is another night in a Berber run gite. Again the friendly welcome, great food and local children all wanting to help and watch make for a truly incredible experience.
Wednesday
After two early starts there’s a more gentle start to the day and a short transfer out to freeride the arid mountain tops above Ouarzazate. There’s a huge area to be explored – a true playground for bikers! The vehicles stay close by to offer a transfer up to ride down as much as we like. Then we either ride or take a lift to a hotel in Ouarzazate for the night. On the way we pass the big film school and old film sets. Many films have been shot here, such as Kundun, Gladiator and Kingdom of Heaven, and the drivers will point out where.
The night is spent in a hotel with a pool, ensuite rooms and a bar with wine and beer available.
Thursday
Another big day of riding on great technical trails awaits, after a drive out past more film sets, up to a high col to start. Today starts with a exciting descent on loose ground into a large canyon, then a very narrow path (with short sections that need to be walked). This is highly technical, rocky trail with a large drop to the side and not for the feint heated! Next up we can ease off as we pedal across a large plateau, and stop for lunch.
Passing through a village we’re on piste road for a short while on our way to the next great section of singletrack. A short walk over big boulders in the river bed is followed by fun technical singletrack, and another village with excited kids watching us ride. Then finally more rocky singletrack, ending in tight switchbacks down to the waiting landcruisers and a very welcome coke shack.
We stay in a great auberge in the Eureka Valley. With sumptuous accommodation and a bar it’s a welcome night of luxury. The food definitely doesn’t disappoint either!
Friday
After a relaxed start t the day and breakfast in the sun, we’ve very short transfer up to the trailhead and we’re on our way. Today’s ride has a mix of amazing singletrack across fields, some rocky sections and some short sections of piste road. The icing on the cake though is the final descent – one of our favourite ever. Another great mule track, rocky, technical and challenging: perfect for adventurous bikers! Just watch out for the children running along beside and cheering you on!
Tonight’s accommodation is in a French run auberge, so another night of luxury. With a fire roaring in a bar filled wth comfy sofas it’s a great place to relax and unwind after a hard’s days riding.
Saturday
The final days ride starts with a transfer up to the top, or for the energetic a ride up. And finishes with a long singletrack trail all the way down to the valley floor. This starts off smooth and dusty and progressively gets rockier and more challenging. Mixing up technical and swoopy sections this is yet another amazing ride to end the week and leave you wishing there were more!
Lunch is taken in the garden back at the auberge, then we drive back to Marrakech to pack up bikes and make the most of the last night in Morocco. For this final night everyone is free to choose where to eat for dinner, back to the night markets; to a restaurant in the medina or new town; or for those who want to splash out, one of Marakech’s renowned top end restaurants.
Sunday
