questions questions...
do you have a question you'd like to ask us?
maybe we can answer it for you here!
how good do I have to be?
You don't have to be the next Steve Pete or Tracy Moseley, or even know who they are to make the most out one of our trips. All we ask is that you're happy riding a bike off road, and have a decent level of fitness. You will find the mountains here are bigger than you're used to and you will need some experience of riding rocky rooty trails! If you're not very experienced at off road riding try our Morzine skills weeks where we can have a beginners group. You then get to learn the necessary skills, and enjoy riding with others of a similar level. To come to Morocco you will need a good level of fitness and experience on technical trails.
what stuff should I bring?
What stuff do you usually take biking? Bring that. We don't leave the chalet without a helmet, gloves, water, basic tools, tubes and a first aid kit. Don't forget your waterproofs either, its not uncommon for a late afternoon thunderstorm to catch you out! Check out our full kit list to see what to bring.
what bike should I bring?
You can ride our routes on a rigid single speed if you really want to! You'd be better off with somthing with a bit of cushioning though. Bikes that call themselves "all mountain" are probably best. It's up to you, but we certainly reccomend at least front suspension and disc brakes. (Sara got hooked on mountain biking after a week in Morzine on her 200 pound GT a few years ago, although she prefered the big bouncy bike she hired on the final day!)
can I hire a bike?
You can indeed. Whether you're looking for something different to your usual steed, or just don't fancy bringing it over, we can sort you out with a suitable ride. Prices start from 55 euros / day for something decent. We run a demo fleet of Santa Cruz bikes with a great range of bikes to choose from.
how do I get my bike on the plane?
Getting a bike on a plane is easier and safer than people think. If you don't have a bike bag, head down to your local bike shop and ask them for a cardboard bike box. Then pack your pride and joy carefully before heading to the airport.
how do I pack up my bike for the plane?
If you're at all worried you can give us a call, and your local bike shop should also be able to advise. If you really can't face it though most bikeshops will do it for you for a small fee! However to get you started... you will need to remove your hadlebars from the stem, then pad carefully and attach to the fork. Remove wheels and let a little air out of the tyres. You need to protect your front forks and rear chain stays. You can buy special braces or use some wood. This prevents the fork legs from being pushed inwards. Remove your rear mech and pad very carefully. Remove pedals, wrap and secure. If you have disc brakes, put a piece of thick cardboard between the pads to prevent them clamping together. Some people like to remove the discs from the wheels, but not everyone does. Then basically cover everything as well as possible!
is it all full face helmets, body armour & big drops?
Not unless you want it to be: there are miles of trails to choose from. You don't need a full face helmet, although you may want to wear armour, its a personal choice. Of course, if big drops are your thing, then there's plenty of that to choose from, and we can tell you how to get there.
do I have to pedal up hill?
On the odd occasion. We make use of the lift system and the mini bus as much as we can, but invariably there will be the odd climb or two. Or if you really want to, you can ride up everything; its just like the UK, only taller.
how do I get there?
Getting to Morzine couldn't be easier. Jump on a plane bound for Geneva, then get a cab to Morzine. We're happy to be that cab, although it is additional to the cost of the holiday. Try BA, Swiss or Easyjet for flights (you'd be surprised how often BA or Swiss are actually cheaper than Easyjet!). Alternatively you can drive, or you can get a train to Geneva. For Morocco there are plenty of cheap flights to Marrakech, from where we'll pick you up. And for Italy look at flights to Turin.
